About OFM
Our Mission
Leading people in our community into a life-changing relationship with Jesus and equipping them in God’s Word to live with passion for One and compassion for all.
Our Values - The Free Methodist Way
Free Methodists are first and foremost Kingdom people. Our identity is shaped by values that are historical, biblical and aspirational. Of the many values we hold dear, these five lie at the heart of the Free Methodist Church. Together, we call these values The Free Methodist Way.
Life-Giving Holiness
God’s call to holiness was never meant to be a burden, but a gift that liberates and empowers us to live the “life to the full” that God created us to enjoy by delivering us from the destructive power of sin.
All who are born again are made right with God by the finished work of Jesus Christ and called to experience the fullness of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. Forgiven and filled, we approach life with confidence that we enjoy a relationship with God even as He continues to transform our character and behavior to become more and more like Jesus. Life-giving holiness, then, is the fruit of full surrender to the loving reign of God over every aspect of our lives.
Love-Driven Justice
Love is the way we demonstrate God’s heart for justice by valuing the image of God in all men, women, and children, acting with compassion toward the oppressed, resisting oppression, and stewarding creation.
We devote ourselves to our founders’ deep convictions around matters of injustice as they took their stand against the evils of slavery, the oppression of the poor, the marginalization of women, and the abuse of power in the church. Our heart for justice continues and expands today, fueled by God’s holy love for the unborn, the vulnerable, oppressed, marginalized, and people of all races and ethnicities.
Christ-Compelled Multiplication
The gospel of Jesus Christ — the message He proclaimed, the life He lived, and the ministry He modeled — set into motion a redemptive movement destined to fill the whole earth.
Jesus’ approach to discipleship was primarily a relational one in which He poured His life into a few with the full expectation that they would follow His example. His aim was not merely the transmission of information, but the transformation of lives by empowering those who followed Him to do what He did. His mission is now our mission. It applies to every believer and describes our desire as a church: the found reaching the lost, disciples making disciples, and leaders developing leaders as we seek new opportunities to build God’s Kingdom in Oroville and around the world.
Cross-Cultural Collaboration
From the beginning, God’s intent was to have a people from every nation, culture, and ethnicity, united in Christ and commissioned to carry out his work in the world. Today we celebrate the beauty of a multicultural and multiethnic church both in the U.S. and in over 100 countries around the world.
God-Given Revelation
We hold unwaveringly to our conviction that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and our final authority in all matters of faith and practice. While the church will always be tasked with authentically communicating and applying biblical truths with sensitivity to cultural dynamics, we do not subjugate the Bible’s timeless truths to cultural norms or social trends.
What We Believe
THE WORD OF GOD
We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God, inerrant in the original writings, complete as the revelation of God’s will for salvation, and the supreme and final authority in all matters to which they speak.
THE TRINITY
We believe in one God, creator and sustainer of all things, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit; that these are equal in every divine perfection and that they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence, and redemption.
GOD THE FATHER
We believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men and women, hears and answers prayer, and He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
JESUS CHRIST
We believe that Jesus Christ is God’s eternal Son, and has precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections as God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. He is not only true God, but true man conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. We believe in His sinless life, His substitutionary atonement, His bodily resurrection from the dead, His ascension into heaven, His priestly intercession on behalf of His people, and His personal, visible, return from heaven.
HOLY SPIRIT
We believe in the Holy Spirit, His personality, and His work in regeneration, sanctification, and preservation. His ministry is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and implement Christ’s work of redeeming the lost and empowering the believer for godly living and service.
HUMANITY
We believe God created humanity, male and female, in the image of God and free from sin. We further believe that humanity rebelled against God according to the Scriptures. All persons are, therefore, sinners by nature and choice and are spiritually dead. We also believe that the Holy Spirit regenerates those who repent of sin and trust Jesus Christ as Savior.
SALVATION
We believe in salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. This salvation is based upon the sovereign grace of God, and was purchased by Christ on the cross, and is received through faith apart from any human merit, works, or ritual. We believe salvation results in righteous living, good works, and proper social concern.
THE CHURCH
We believe that the Church is the spiritual body of which Christ is the head and is composed of all persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. This body expresses itself in local assemblies whose members have been baptized and have associated themselves for worship, instruction, evangelism, and service. The ordinances of the local church are baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We also believe in the interdependence of local churches and the mutual submission of Christians to each other in love.
CHRISTIAN CONDUCT
We believe that the supreme task of every believer is to glorify God in life and conduct and be blameless before the world. Each Christian should be a faithful steward of all possessions and seek to realize in every area of life the full stature of maturity in Christ.
LAST THINGS
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the saved and lost, the eternal existence of all people in either heaven or hell, in divine judgments, rewards, and punishments.

Knowing Jesus at OFM
F - Follow
Jesus invited people to follow Him. At first, they didn’t know much about Him. The truth is they were pretty clueless about Jesus when they first met Him. Eleven men in particular spent three years with Jesus, getting to know Him and learning from Him before they fully grasped who He was and what it meant to be a “Disciple”. Once they did, there was no turning back. They gave their lives wholly and completely to the One who gave His life for them.
We invite you to follow Jesus much like they did. Take some time to truly explore who Jesus is and what He taught. Read the Bible. Join a Life Group. Ask questions. Learn about who Jesus is and what the Bible teaches about Him.
B - Believe
When we believe that Jesus died for our sins and rose again we become a member of God’s forever family. The Bible teaches that God created us for a relationship with Him but we walked away from Him and decided to do things our own way. The Bible calls this rebellious attitude (and the resulting actions) sin and sin separates us from God. But God wasn’t willing to give up on us. Jesus came to pay penalty for our sins (John 3:16). When we believe that Jesus is who He says He is—that He died on the Cross so that we can be forgiven, and rose again so that we can have eternal life—we are saved! We are rescued from our sins and forgiven and we become children of God (John 1:12).
One way to grow in our relationship with God is to be part of a local church family where we find encouragement, support, and accountability as followers of Jesus AND we encourage, support, and provide accountability for others to help them grow in their relationship with Jesus too.
I - Invest
At OFMC, we believe there is no greater investment in life than the investment we make in our relationship with Jesus. Investing in our relationship with Jesus includes investing in our relationship with His church - God’s forever family.
There are at least three ways we invest in our relationship with God and His church. The first is giving our time. Nothing communicates how much we value a relationship like the investment of our time. A few ways we invest time in our relationship with God include: a regular quiet time with Him in prayer and Bible reading, worship, and serving others. The second way we can invest in our relationship with God and His church is using our talents and skills. God has given each of us gifts to use for His glory. There are many opportunities to use your gifts at OFMC! The final way we can invest at OFMC is our treasures. Giving financially not only reflects that we value the things God values, it also enables us to build His Kingdom through outreach and discipleship in ways we wouldn’t be able to accomplish without the generosity of God’s people.
